Umberto Fantini - Violin
Born in Cuneo in 1959 he graduated in 1979 and studied with C.Romano, M.Skampa, G.Kurtág and P.Farulli. A founding member of the "String Quartet of Turin", he has won numerous national and international competitions and played in major concert seasons in Italy and abroad with String Quartet. He has received numerous awards such as: Stock Exchange "De studio are, Association for Music of Turin", the official assignment Quartet in Residence at the European University, an honorary diploma at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, the II Prize at the IV International Competition for quartet of Cremona arches, a special prize for the best classified Quartet and the audience prize at the International Competition "Premio Vittorio Gui" in Florence, a special mention of the "Concours International de XIXème jury Quatuor à cordes d'Evian"; an award for artistic value from city of Turin. With the Quartet Master he has performed in major concert seasons and festivals in Italy and abroad (Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Croatia, Cuba, France, Germany, England, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia). He has was visiting artist to the Festival of the Prague Spring in 1996, the Oleg Kagan Festival in Kreuth (D) in 1999 and twice (1999 and 2002) at the Orlando Festival in Kerkrade (Netherlands). In autumn 2003 he made a tour of 6 concerts in Belgium and northern France for Europalia in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In spring 2005, he performed the complete quartets of G.Scelsi live on radio as part of the 23rd Biennale Zagreb. It was broadcast in Italy and abroad - Radio Tre, Rai Tre, Tele + 3, R.T.B.F, Radio 3 Brussels, France Musique, B.B.C. and Radio Classica (Spain), Radio Slovenija, Radio Zagreb. Among the recordings to a CD dedicated to Central Europe (Webern, Berg, Janacek) and another one dedicated to G. Verdi with the Quartet in E minor and the transcription of "A masked ball", both produced by De Sono. In December 2002 he recorded the soundtrack of the BMG G. Salvatores movie "I'm Not Scared" composed E.Bosso. From this work a theatrical performance issued with the participation of Salvatores. The collaboration wth E. Bosco continued with a second recording in 2004 of "The street of a thousand and a comet". He has performed in a quintet with O.Arzilli, V.Berlinsky, L.Castellani, A.Ciccolini - with whom he has created for the Phoenix a CD dedicated to GAFano - S.Delmastro, P.Farulli, G.Garbarino, R.Gottardi, A.Nannoni, T.Mealli, M.Monetti, LW van den Oudenweyer, F.Zigante. In an octet has collaborated with the Skampa Quartet. Since 1999 he holds courses of string orchestra and chamber music at the High School of Saluzzo Improvement. He is Lecturer of Violin at the Giuseppe Verdi Music Academy of Turin.
